A Picturesque Community Along the Mae Klang River Ban Mae Klang Luang is situated on the third watershed of Doi Inthanon, forming part of the Mae Klang River community, which consists of four villages: Ban Ang Ka Noi, Ban Mae Klang Luang, Ban Nong Lom, and Ban Pha Mon. Each community comprises approximately 60-80 households. Most of the residents still maintain a traditional way of life, including cultivating terraced rice fields and practicing sustainable agriculture.
Terraced Rice Fields: A Must-See Beauty One of the highlights of Ban Mae Klang Luang is its terraced rice fields, which cascade beautifully down the slopes. During the rainy season, from September to mid-October, the fields are lush and green, often blanketed by a light mist hovering over the mountains. From late October to early November, the rice ripens, turning the fields into a golden expanse that glistens under the sun—a truly unforgettable sight.

Getting There
By Car: From Chiang Mai City, take Highway No. 108 (Chiang Mai–Hot) through Hang Dong, San Pa Tong, and Chom Thong Districts, covering approximately 50 kilometers. Then continue on Highway No. 1009 toward Doi Inthanon National Park for another 26 kilometers. Turn left to reach Ban Mae Klang Luang.
By Public Transportation: Take a shared Songthaew (local truck) on the Chom Thong-Mae Chaem route. Board at the parking lot next to Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong. The truck passes through Doi Inthanon National Park. Get off at the 26-kilometer marker and walk about 500 meters into the village.
Ban Mae Klang Luang offers an opportunity to experience the traditional lifestyle of the Pgakenyaw people, who still uphold their customs and simplicity.
