Khao Khitchakut Thai Tradition The Khao Khitchakut Climbing Festival in Chanthaburi Province is one of the most important and well-known traditions in the eastern part of Thailand. It is held annually at the beginning of the year with the main goal of worshiping and paying homage to the Buddha, especially the Buddha related to local legends and beliefs. Climbing Khao Khitchakut is not only a physical journey, but also an important spiritual journey for those who participate.

Climbing Khao Khitchakut originated from the long-standing religious beliefs and legends of the communities in Chanthaburi Province. Khao Khitchakut is considered a sacred place related to the Buddha. According to local legends, it is home to a sacred Buddha image that has the power to relieve suffering and bring good fortune to those who come to pay homage. Climbing Khao Khitchakut is an activity that combines faith and religious beliefs.

Phra Phutthabat Khao Khitchakut (Phluang) The top of Khao Khitchakut has the footprint of the Buddha or Phra Bat Phluang, located in Tambon Phluang, Khao Khitchakut Subdistrict, approximately 40 kilometers from the city center. This footprint of the Buddha is a mark on a large stone slab, 1 meter wide and 2 meters long, discovered at the top of Phra Bat Mountain, approximately 4 kilometers from the Khao Khitchakut Park office.

Tradition of Worship The Khao Khitchakut tradition is an important and highly respected tradition in Thailand. It starts on the 1st to the 15th day of the waxing moon of the 3rd month of every year. However, in 1993, it was opened for worship for 30 days, in 1994 for 45 days, and since 1995, it has been opened for worship for 60 days. This extended worship period makes it more convenient for both Thai and foreign devotees to worship.

The Khao Khitchakut tradition in Chanthaburi Province is a good example of preserving valuable beliefs and cultures that are important to the community. Organizing the event at the beginning of the year is not only to worship the Buddha, but also to strengthen unity and sustainably preserve the community's traditional traditions.
