Wat Chettawong

Wat Chettawong Bang Khayaeng, Muang Pathum Thani, Pathum Thani. It was built in the early Rattnakosin period. There are ancient sites and objects as well as valuable arts in the temple compound such as 100-year-old Ubosot covered with earthenware.

 

In front of it, there are a veranda (bird wing eaves), a single gate and three windows on both sides. It was similar to Mahaut temple in the past surrounded by boundary marker bases discovered in eight directions.

 

The remaining ancient sites and objects are the temple and pagoda in front of the Ubosot. The tympanum of the pediment was covered with stucco of flowers and the figure of deva in the middle.

 

It was built at the end of Ayutthaya period. Inside the Ubosot, there was a beautiful mural painting. The wall was made of brick and earthenware. Overhanging bird wing eaves were installed to protect from rain.

 

There were a single gate and three side windows on each side. The presiding Buddha image, the Buddha image in the attitude of meditation and those in descending order were enshrined on a plaster base decorated with stucco and splendid glass. 

 

Inside the temple, the Buddha image in the attitude of meditation was placed together with a mural painting painted by a master artist in the Ayutthaya period.

 

The painting is so beautiful that everyone must be enchanted. The painting depicted the story of the Buddha. But now, those pictures blur. The Department of Fine Arts therefore offered to renovate and registered them in 1987.

It is at 307, Soi Watchinwararam, Bang Khayaeng sub-district, Mueang district, Pathum Thani province. To access the temple, use Route 345 until reaching Pathum Thani-Sai Nai junction, go straight before crossing Pathum Thani 2 Bridge and turn left after noticing Soi Watchinnaram.
