Rare Stone Museum It is a private museum. A collection of strangely shaped rocks On display for the public to view Located at the entrance of Soi Charoen Krung 26, Charoen Krung Road, Bang Rak District, Bangkok. The Strange Stone Museum was founded in 1999 by Mr. Yanyong Lertnimit, a textile businessman and collector who has collected tens of thousands of stones from all over Thailand. and from abroad.
The museum displays strange stones in a 3-story building. The 1st and 2nd floors are more than 2,000 pieces of jade, fossils, natural stones, stalactites, etc., with a new set of exhibits being changed every 6 months.
These rocks consist of fossilized wood rocks from the northeastern region. Stones from northern Thailand Sea shell fossils from Phetchabun But most of the rocks are from the central region, such as Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Suphanburi, Ratchaburi, Uthai Thani, etc. These rocks are at least 200 million years old or more.
The unique rocks in this museum are named according to their appearance: "gray hair on the rock" is a rock with algae attached to it. It looks like gray hair, "Laem Thong" which is shaped like an ax handle, "Rain Shelter" which is like a protruding cliff ridge, "Turtle Thewada" which is a stone weighing over 1,000 kilograms, with the area resembling a turtle shell having a very eye-catching pattern. And the "Nice to meet you" stone is a pair of stones, resembling two penguins standing holding hands. There are also many rocks shaped like animals.
For rocks from foreign countries It has a strange and beautiful appearance, such as a stone from Saudi Arabia called "Desert Rose" made from gypsum minerals tightly packed together with barite. and calcite crystallizes in white areas that resemble rose petals.
3rd floor area of the museum On display are more than 4,000 ashtrays from different countries, made from various materials such as terracotta, animal bone, wood, mother-of-pearl, crystal, brass, etc. There are also pictures of cigar pills that come with the cigarettes. Match labels and cigarette labels from Thailand and abroad, over 50 years old, and many other collectibles.
Today, the Strange Stone Museum is open to the public. By collecting admission fees at a low rate and was not widely publicized making it not widely known The museum has a lot of expenses, such as staff fees, electricity costs, totaling at least 200,000 baht per month (including building rent). There is also a lack of parking. This makes tours from abroad not popular. Because of this, the museum owner had to earn additional income by selling some of the stones.
