Department of Territorial Defense It was originally called the Royal Chamberlain Regiment. The former area was the location of Sanam Chai Palace, Palace No. 3. His Majesty King Nang Klao graciously ordered the area of Sanam Chai Palace No. 2 to be divided to build this palace to bestow upon Krom Muen Adulyalaksombat.
His original name was Prince Urai. The 29th son of King Nang Klao and Chao Chom Manda Khieo. He was the head of the Uraipong dynasty of Ayutthaya. He resided at this palace until 1868 when he moved to reside at the Nam Phra Lan Road Palace, Wang Tawan Tok.
This palace became the residence of His Royal Highness. Kromluang Prajaksilpakom His original name was Prince Thong Kong Kon Yai. who is the 25th son of King Mongkut with Chao Chom Manda Sangwan He was the head of the great golden dynasty at Ayutthaya. Later, His Majesty King Mongkut Klao Chao Yuhua graciously purchased this palace land in order to build the Ratchawanlop Building in 1923, used as the headquarters for the Rajwanlop soldiers. Later in the year 1956, the government moved the Department of Territorial Defense from Thammasat University to this building.
Important architectural features The Territorial Defense Department building runs parallel to Charoen Krung Road. The front of the building is between Mahachai Road and Charoen Krung Road. It is a 2-story building. Only the central porch area is a 3-story building. The area in front of the 2nd floor porch is decorated with a bas-relief sculpture painted with the royal crest of King Rama V. The year the Rachawanlop Building was built is 1923, but the building is supported by 8 large round pillars.
It will be decorated in the Ionic Greek architectural style. The base of the pillar is square. The pillars are carved with deep vertical grooves. The pillar area is decorated with a spiral pattern. It is placed vertically to support the awning and has elephant ears curled into a spiral between the awning and the roof.
The upper frame of the window is decorated with alternating arches and straight arches. The upper wall under the roof has glass and is decorated with a long stucco pattern. The gable area of the roof has a Greco-Roman pattern. It was originally roofed with kite tiles, but when the building was renovated in 1967, it was changed to double wavy tiles.
