Attractions in Thailand

Doi Hua Suea, located in Chiang Mai, is a beloved destination for many travelers. It offers breathtaking natural scenery and a unique local culture. It is an ideal spot for those seeking to escape the city’s hustle and bustle and immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature.

Location and How to Get There Doi Hua Suea is situated in Ban Luang Subdistrict, Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province. Travelers can reach Doi Hua Suea by renting a car or motorcycle from Chiang Mai city, which takes about 2 hours, or by joining a guided tour organized by local travel companies.

Doi Hua Suea, located southeast of Doi Inthanon National Park Headquarters, stands 1,881 meters above sea level, making it the fourth-highest peak in the park. Its name, which translates to "Tiger’s Head Mountain," is derived from its tiger-nose-like shape. The area is rich with diverse flora, including pine forests mixed with montane forests. Visitors can see the rare three-colored Rhododendron arboreum during May-June and the perennial herbaceous plant, Impatiens.

The path to the summit is lined with lush vegetation and ancient trees, some over a thousand years old. Among the notable features are the "trees in clothing" or "ancient forest," where the trunks are wrapped in a natural green carpet of moss, lichen, and ferns. This phenomenon is due to the cool and moist climate at 1,881 meters above sea level.

Doi Hua Suea offers several scenic viewpoints. The first spot provides a view of the tiger-nose-like summit. This area features a grassy plain and large rocks for resting. Further up, the peak of Doi Hua Suea reveals a unique feature known as the "mystery soil pits," resembling military bunkers, approximately 4-6 meters wide and covered with trees from below. These pits are barely noticeable without close inspection.

The trail to the summit is quite extensive, involving ascents and descents along mountain ridges. Although challenging, the trail is filled with diverse forest ecosystems, offering numerous points of interest and study.

Doi Hua Suea is also home to local ethnic communities, such as the Karen people. Visitors can learn about their simple way of life, enjoy local cuisine, and admire exquisite handmade crafts.
