Chat Chai Market is one of Hua Hin's oldest and most renowned markets, popular among both Thai and international tourists. Established in 1926 during the reign of King Rama VII, the market was built following the royal vision of King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) during his stay at Wang Klai Kangwon with Queen Rambhai Barni. The construction was led by General Prince Purachatra Jayakara, the Prince of Kamphaengphet, who designed and built it in honor of the King. The market’s structure features seven interconnected arches, symbolizing the seventh reign.

Distinctive Features of Chat Chai Market Chat Chai Market is designed with an open structure that allows for excellent airflow, making it one of the most sanitary markets of its time. Although it has been renovated several times, the original arched roof remains preserved, serving as a unique attraction that continues to draw visitors.

Inside the market, shoppers will find a wide variety of goods, including souvenirs and local food items. There is a broad selection of dried seafood, fresh produce, and household goods, along with many long-established food stalls serving dishes such as chicken rice, pork leg stew, traditional Thai desserts, savory stuffed dumplings, Phetchaburi-style rice soaked in water, roasted sweet potatoes and bananas, mango sticky rice, an assortment of chili pastes, and clear broth beef noodles.

Health and Safety Standards Chat Chai Market has earned the Safety and Health Administration (SHA) certification from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and various public health agencies. Strict hygiene measures are enforced, including regular cleaning of the market, hand sanitizing stations, temperature checks, mask mandates for both visitors and staff, and social distancing.

Getting There Chat Chai Market is conveniently located in a central area of Hua Hin, accessible by both private vehicles and public transport. Its charm and easy accessibility make it a must-visit destination that maintains its unique appeal, attracting visitors year-round.
