Wat That Tharam (Wat Khao That) Coral Chedi at Wat Chan That Tharam It is an ancient ancient site of Khanom town. It is believed to be over 1000 years old. enshrined on the top of the mountain The pagoda is in the shape of an upside down, about 5-6 m in diameter.
It was built by bringing coral stones to create a whole pagoda. Around the pagoda there is a Buddha image carved in red sandstone, indicating that this place was the site of a period of Buddhist civilization. On the top of Khao That, you can see the view of Thong Nian Bay.
According to legend, believers from Chaiya has gathered wealth, gold and valuables to be packed at the Phra Borommathat Mueang Nakhon but not in time because the relics were completed before Those who have faith have come together to build a pagoda on Khao That by bringing the coral in the area to build a chedi in the shape of an upside down pagoda. Around the chedi there is a Buddha image carved in red sandstone.
It is believed to be the source of Buddhist civilization at a time in the northern bay area of this peninsula. Another legend tells that there was a master class. and people from Chumphon, Prachuap Khiri Khan Surat Thani who has faith in the Buddha's relics Nakhon Si Thammarat has brought glass, silver and gold rings. and various valuables to be packed in Phra Borommathat Nakhon.
But during the voyage the ship was wrecked. Some survived and washed ashore here. So they jointly built a chedi from coral stones to contain the remaining valuables instead of packing them at the Phra Borommathat Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Traveling from Nakhon Si Thammarat city distance about 116 Km. along Highway No. 401 (Surat - Nakhon Si) to Khlong Leng Intersection. (Observe the dolphin statue) Turn right onto Highway 4014.
When entering Khanom town area at the intersection market, turn left into Khanom town through the duty of the district office. Bang Nod Market across the bridge over the canal Khanom to Ban Bang Phaeng Intersection Turn left onto Highway 4044 to Wat Chan That Tharam.
