Phu Chi Duen A Hidden Gem of Sea Fog in Chiang Rai You Must Experience. If you’re looking for a fresh and breathtaking natural destination in Thailand, Phu Chi Duen in Chiang Rai should be on your list. Opened to visitors for the first time in November 2016, this scenic spot has quickly gained popularity among adventurers who love immersing themselves in nature and enjoying panoramic views.
Phu Chi Duen Located in Ban Rom Fa Luang, Pa Or Subdistrict, Wiang Kaen District, Phu Chi Duen is the youngest sibling among its more famous counterparts, Phu Chi Fa and Phu Chi Dao. However, its towering height of 1,743 meters above sea level surpasses them all. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy views of Phu Chi Fa, Phu Chi Dao, and Doi Pha Tang all at once.
The best time to visit Phu Chi Duen is undoubtedly during the winter months, from November to February, when the thick sea of mist envelops the mountains and creates a spectacular, otherworldly scene. Most visitors arrive early in the morning to witness the stunning sunrise. The first light of day gently illuminates the sea of fog and surrounding mountains, offering a breathtaking view that extends across the Mekong River to the forests and hills of Laos.
Getting to the summit of Phu Chi Duen is relatively simple. The parking area is about 650 meters away from Phu Chi Dao, where you’ll take a local shuttle up the hill for approximately 15 minutes, followed by a short 5-10 minute walk to the peak. While the journey isn’t too strenuous, preparing your body for the altitude and cool weather is always a good idea.
Phu Chi Duen is a destination that welcomes nature lovers year-round, but it truly shines during winter. Its tranquil atmosphere, awe-inspiring views, and the warmth of the local community make it a memorable experience.
Whether you’re drawn by the magical sea of fog, the golden rays of sunrise, or the 360-degree panoramic views of the Thai-Lao border, Phu Chi Duen promises an adventure like no other.
