Wat Wiset Chai Chan is a significant temple with a long history dating back to the Ayutthaya period. Located in Wiset Chai Chan District, Ang Thong Province, this temple has long been a center of faith for the local community and serves as a prominent site reflecting the region's history and culture over the centuries.

 

Although most of the original structures have been destroyed, with only the chedi (stupa) remaining, the new buildings erected during the Rattanakosin period still maintain their beauty and continue to preserve the temple's heritage. Among these is the ordination hall (ubosot), built in 1931, which stands out with its four-tiered roof and ornate gables. The interior walls of the ubosot are adorned with exquisite murals that were painted about 30 years ago by Pui Phumraksa, a skilled artist from the capital. The murals depict the life of the Buddha and foreign invaders, all rendered in a shaded style, showcasing the artist’s mastery.

 

In addition to the ordination hall, Wat Wiset Chai Chan also features a mondop (pavilion) housing a replica of the Buddha’s footprint, and a spacious sermon hall built in 1929. The temple also includes 10 monk residences, built as concrete structures. Among its significant objects of worship are the principal Buddha image in the ubosot and the monument of two local heroes, Nai Dok and Nai Thongkaeo, who are commemorated for their bravery in defending the region against invaders. Their monument stands proudly at the temple's entrance.

By Private Car From Bangkok, take the Asian Highway (Route 32) heading towards Ang Thong Province. Once you reach Ang Thong, turn left onto Highway 3195, which connects Ang Thong to Wiset Chai Chan. Drive along this route for about 8 kilometers, and you will find the entrance to Wat Wiset Chai Chan on the left-hand side. Signposts along the way will guide you clearly.

 

By Public Bus If you prefer public transport, you can take a bus from Bangkok's Mo Chit Bus Terminal on the Bangkok-Ang Thong route. Upon arrival in Wiset Chai Chan District, get off at a stop near the temple entrance, and from there, you can take a motorcycle taxi to the temple.

 

By Minivan Another option is to travel by minivan from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai). Minivans on the Bangkok-Ang Thong route also pass through Wiset Chai Chan District, making it easy to reach Wat Wiset Chai Chan.
