Wat Huay Nam Sub, commonly known as Wat Phra That Wayo, is situated by the Lat Krating Reservoir in Tambon Lat Krating, Amphoe Sanam Chai Khet, Chachoengsao Province. If traveling from Chachoengsao city, take the route leading to Amphoe Tha Takiap (towards the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary on Highway 3259).
Originally a meditation center, Wat Huay Nam Sub was elevated to temple status in 1985 with the support of Mrs. Suchitra Phanthong and her disciples. It is believed to be connected to an ancient city named "Wayo Nakorn" that once thrived before declining due to natural disasters and epidemics. The temple was officially granted ecclesiastical boundaries in 2009.
Notable Structures and Relics:
Phra Maha Chedi Phra That Wayo The Phra Maha Chedi Phra That Wayo stands 39 meters tall with a base diameter of 20 meters. The chedi is designed with three tiers, each adorned with colored tiles: gold, blue, and white. Inside the chedi are relics of the Buddha and five Buddha images representing past and future Buddhas. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of the Lat Krating Reservoir from the top of the chedi.
Luang Por Yai Prathan Phon is a large Buddha statue in the posture of "Prathan Phon" (Blessing). Standing 29 meters tall with a base width of 20 meters, it was constructed between 1992 and 1994. The statue is located outdoors on a base platform with a hall beneath it, allowing visitors to pay respects via stairs at the front.
Luang Por Plod Nee is a Buddha statue in the "Mara Victory" posture, renowned for its association with prayers for debt relief and prosperity. This statue is situated under the shade of a large Bodhi tree behind the main chedi, attracting many visitors, particularly those seeking financial solutions.
Phra Buddha SayaThe Phra Buddha Sayan, or Reclining Buddha, is housed in a hall and measures 20 meters in length. The base of the statue contains the ashes of Mrs. Suchitra Phanthong, a key figure in the temple's establishment.
Wat Huay Nam Sub spans a large area extending to the Lat Krating Reservoir. The temple grounds are lush with trees and provide a serene atmosphere, making it a popular spot for relaxation and merit-making. The pathways and stairs are designed to blend with the natural surroundings, offering visitors both spiritual tranquility and a connection with nature. To reach the temple, take Highway 3259 through Amphoe Tha Takiap, and upon entering Amphoe Sanam Chai Khet, look for signs directing you to the temple near the Lat Krating Reservoir.
Wat Huay Nam Sub serves as a crucial religious center for the community in Sanam Chai Khet District. In addition to being a site for merit-making and Buddhist rituals, the temple is a hub for various community activities, including merit-making events and significant festivals such as Vesak Day and the Buddhist Lent. The temple plays a vital role in fostering strong ties between the community and religion.
