The Siri Ruckhachati Nature Park Sala Ya, Phuta Monthon, Nakhon Pathom. Established in 1981,the Siri Ruckhachati Nature Park, Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University was named in honor of Her Majesty the Queen.
On 8 August 1988, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presides over the official opening ceremony of the garden. The main purpose of this medicinal plant garden is to be a live laboratory for pharmacy students to make themselves familiar with Thai medicinal plants.
The garden, however, also has other objectives including:
1. to serve as a collection and conservation center for Thai medicinal plants,
2. to serve as a cultivation place for medicinal plant needed for research projects.
3. to be a Thai medicinal plants information center for pharmacy students and traditional Thai medicine students from other universities or institutions, as well as for researchers, health professional, school students, and others.
Since its inception, the number of people visiting the Garden has been increasing every year, In 1993, the Siri Ruckhachati Nature Park was awarded the "Mahidol Award" for public services.
Three years later in 1996, it was awarded the "National Outstanding Project" for conservation of natural resources and the environment (Herbal Medicine), by the Office of the Prime Minister.
More than 800 species of medicinal plants are growing up in a 15-acre peaceful garden. It is divided into 3 zones.
- Plant nursery area of 480 sqm, has been set for plants needed intensive care and some rare plant species.
- On the 5-acre of land is designed as public park covering with green grass and decorated with varieties of common used medicinal plants.
- The largest area of the garden, about 10 acres, comprises of many medicinal plants species collected from different parts of Thailand and freely growing up as in their native environments.
The garden is also designed to support self-study activities.Each plan has a 4x6-inch plate containing Thai name, scientific name, part use and its indications (in Thai) to identify itself.
