Luang Por To (Wat Tan Chet Yot) Sala Lai, Sam Roi Yot, Prachuap Khiri Khan. Wat Tan Chet Yot, located in the Salalai subdistrict of Ang Thong Province, is a renowned sacred place, celebrated for its grand statue of Luang Phor To, which serves as a spiritual anchor for local Buddhists and visitors alike. The name "Tan Chet Yot" originates from a once-prominent toddy palm tree with seven branches that stood proudly in this area. However, this iconic tree was removed to make way for the southern railway line before 1957, as its location obstructed the rail path. Even though the tree no longer stands, the village and temple have kept its name, preserving its memory to this day.

The statue of Luang Phor To at Wat Tan Chet Yot is the largest representation of Somdet Phra Phutthachan (To Phrommarangsi) in the world, standing at a remarkable 11 meters wide and 18 meters high. This massive figure serves as a spiritual center for Buddhists and tourists, not only as a monumental site but also as a symbol for spreading the teachings of Somdet Phra Phutthachan (To Phrommarangsi) to all who come to pay their respects.

Alongside Luang Phor To, the temple also houses life-sized statues of revered monks, including Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta, Luang Pu Thuad, Luang Pu Suk of Wat Pak Khlong Makham Tao, and Luang Pu Sot of Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen, as well as several other Buddha images. These figures offer additional places for visitors to pray and reflect, transforming Wat Tan Chet Yot into a peaceful sanctuary for meditation and spiritual inspiration.

The landscape around Wat Tan Chet Yot has been thoughtfully developed to create a peaceful and inviting environment. The grounds are lined with lush trees that provide a tranquil, shady atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. This welcoming setting invites visitors to explore the temple grounds in a relaxed and serene environment, making the experience of visiting Wat Tan Chet Yot both a nourishing and rejuvenating experience for the heart and soul.

Continuous improvements to the grounds have made the temple a popular destination, reinforcing its role as a learning center and a place to preserve Thailand’s essential religious traditions.

Wat Tan Chet Yot is located in Ang Thong Province, about 100 kilometers from Bangkok. It is easily accessible by car or public transportation, and the drive from Bangkok takes roughly one to two hours, making it ideal for a day trip.

The temple is open to tourists and visitors every day, with no admission fee, making it an accessible destination for those seeking a place of rest, peace, or cultural discovery.

Wat Tan Chet Yot is not only a place of deep reverence and faith in Buddhism but also a site reflecting Thailand’s history, art, and culture within the community. It’s an ideal place to visit for those looking to connect with their spirituality, learn about local traditions, and appreciate the cultural heritage of the region.
