Si Prachan Old Market (Ban Chao Khun) Si Prachan, Si Prachan, Suphan Buri. Si Prachan Old Market located near Ta Chin River with 100 years of history. The market was awarded the 2008 travel industry award. The market is 20 kilometers away from the north of Suphanburi city. Most buildings are 2-storey buildings.
Today, it might not be as crowded compared to the past, still in on every Saturday, local people will offer set-up stores selling traditional food to tourists including duck noodles, noodles topped with sauce, crispy noodles, traditional coffees
and other Thai and Chinese desserts like coconut milk custard in small porcelain cup, traditional crispy and sweet noodles, crispy rice and etc. there are also toy, postcard and farm product shop offering fresh vegetables and various types of mushroom to visitors in a cheap price.
Another highlight includes the house of P.A. Payutto; the admirable example and also the Thai monk who was praised for his brilliant poetic skill in Buddhist literature.
He created over 300 books both in Thai and English. His house used to be a textile store. The place has been preserved in the same condition along with its equipment from over 100 years ago.
Visitors can also visit Kuanim Shrine or cruising along Ta Chine River. There are few accommodations available for tourists in the city. If you travel by public buses, take Suphan-Sriprachan minibus and take off at Sriprachan Market.
On every weekend, Saturdays-Sundays, from 9 o’clock near the river behind the old market, there will be several rafts selling foods and local desserts. From that spot, there is a bridge connecting to Wat Ban Krang situated at the opposite of the river; it is an important temple of Suphanburi province and also it is where well-known Khun Phaen’s room was found.
