Wat Mongkhon Kothawat Bang Bo, Khlong Dan, Samut Prakan. It is situated near Khlong Dan Market. Luang Por Pan, a well-respected monk during King Rama V’s reign, stayed at this temple and improved everything, making it an important temple of the district until now.
The temple, formerly called Wat Bang Hia Nok, was constructed in 1757. The name of the sub district was Bang Hia, hence the name of the temple. Later, the authorities changed the name of the sub district to Khlong Dan because hia is a Thai swear word. Since then, to make the temple’s name sound better, it is changed to Wat Mongkhon Kothawat.
What is interesting at this temple is the image of Luang Por Pan, enshrined in the kuti (where the monks reside in the temple compound). This image was made before his death.
People who respected him made the image as his representation that they can worship. According to the Lunar Calendar, in October or November during the First Quarter Moon every year, the image is moved to Bangbor District Office for worship and gilding ceremony. It is held at the Bangbor District Office because people living in different sub districts can easily go there to attend the ceremony.
In addition, the area in the front of the temple facing Khlong Dan is also a perfect place for relaxing.
